2011 | A Music Review

We had an incredible evening for our second annual music review at 230 Guerrero.  Lots of new faces participating and even more faces just hanging out and listening.  Below is a comprehensive list as well as links to the tunes on Spotify.  Unfortunately not all of the artists are represented on Spotify.  Enjoy!

“Give Me Faith” - Elevation Church

This song meant a lot to my year for numerous reasons.  Lyrically and musically this song is probably the most singable and theologically convicting song on faith ever written and by far my favorite new worship tune of 2010.

I hope for 2011 that we at IKON can continue, through faith, to see goodness revealed in our lives, the lives of those around us and our city.  That we would not settle, that we would not lack the courage to be bold, that we not just sing songs like this without allowing the words to speak to and shape our minds and hearts.  That we continue to find our place in this story here in San Francisco and we express that through songs like this and other that we write together.  That in 2011 we will sing louder and louder and louder than we ever have before, not for vain expression but for declaration of, desire for, and affirmation in the power Christ resurrection working in and through us.

Enjoy!

2010 Album of the Year Listening Party Recap

20 people or so gathered in our Mission apt for a night of music.  After 3 hours of nonstop tracks the album that prevailed with the most plays in 5 rounds was:

FYSH: Wes Kitten (Visual Journalist)

Wes Kitten is a brilliant visual journalist.  If you go to my about.me/jasonmorrell you will see a photo that Wes captured of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Back story, May 6th of 2010 I traveled to SF for the first time for my interview with IKON.  Aaron (pastor of IKON) picked me up from SFO and decided to drive me around the city.  As we rounded the top of the city and this American icon came into my sight it was “instant love and first sight”, much like the first time you see Manhattan from Jersey or listen to Taylor Swift(stop hiding people).  All that to say..Wes somehow captured that “love at first sight” moment in his unique perspective of the Golden Gate.  Need I say more?  Hire him, fly him to your church, your weddings, even to shoot your bbq!
